Summit Magazine No. 3 (November 2007 - January 2008)

The November-January edition of SUMMIT Magazine hit the newsstands recently and is already making waves with its high quality and content. The exquisite silhouette 48-page glossy magazine is now in the first rank of magazines anywhere in Cameroon, according to those who have perused the cover-to-cover must-read issue.

The magazine, which is only at its third edition, is attracting an ever-growing readership across the world. The third edition walks through the corridors of young celebrities, the world of fashion and beauty, health, cinema and tourism.

In its cover story, SUMMIT profiles His Eminence Cardinal Christian Tumi, the unbowed Cardinal who reveals, in an exclusive interview, his life, controversial issues relating to the Catholic Church, his fight against corruption and homosexuality, his stance on secession, ongoing attempts to modify the constitution and eliminate presidential term limits, and why he turned down an offer to become Cameroon's President in 2004. The interview follows with a two-page pictorial of the life of the Cardinal, who is considered to be a model in Cameroon.

SUMMIT also took great interest in health, with a compelling story of how Saudi Arabian doctors remade Cameroonian Siamese twins and how the parents, hitherto Baptised Christians, were converted into Moslems. The twins, who were considered a curse and were at the verge of being sacrificed, turned out to be a blessing to an entire community that is already turning to Islam.

In a follow-up on health, the edition profiles Cameroon's lynchpin Ear, Nose and Throat and ENT specialist, Dr. Martin Ekeke Monono, who burns out his life for the health needs of Cameroonians. Breast ironing and its repercussions on girls did not escape the lens of SUMMIT Magazine.

SUMMIT also zoomed on the Christian union of famous journalist, Charly Ndi Chia with Rachel. The magazine best recounts the much talked about wedding in pictures.

SUMMIT, which prides itself as 'the world of people', peeped into the life of Paul Tasong, Director of Programming of Investments in the Ministry of Finance in Yaounde; his education, his family life and his rise within the administration.

SUMMIT also travelled to the US and recounts how a Cameroonian movie "Dream Kweens" was premiered in a Hollywood-style extravaganza in Atlanta, Georgia.

Besides celebrating people, the magazine lamented the dilapidation of one of Cameroon's foremost and best hotel, the Buea Mountain Hotel. "Buea Mountain Hotel: The Demise of A Gem" takes the reader in and out of the once pride of Southwest tourism that is now in shambles.

The magazine also reviewed a book, No Turning Back: Poems Of Freedom, by American-based poet, Dibussi Tande.

Is it possible for us cameroonians abroad to have an online version similar to The post online?

I assume that since hard copies of Summit Magazine are actually available for purchase in the US and Europe (unlike the Post which is only sold in Cameroon), it doesn't make sense to put the entire 48 page issue online. That wouldn't make good business sense? Would it. However, I think that a few sample pages will not hurt...
